Common Questions

What to know before you apply

The most common questions from women considering the program.

Who is the program for?

Hope Bravely is for Ukrainian single mothers with children under 16 who are living in poverty and ready to take active steps toward employment, training, or building their own income. To be eligible, your household income must be at or below $350 per month if you are paying rent, or $175 per month if your housing is covered, plus $50 for each child under 16. If your income is above these limits but under $800 per month, you may still qualify for our mentoring and career counseling program. If you are working toward a job, a certification, or a small business of your own, we are here to walk that path with you.

What does Hope Bravely actually cover?

Targeted, time-bound support that closes a real gap. That can look like rent during a training period, tuition for a course, equipment for a small business, or career and financial counseling. We do not provide ongoing social or medical assistance, and we are not a general humanitarian aid program.

How does rent assistance work?

We pay your landlord directly by bank transfer, not to you. This protects any government benefits you may receive and keeps a clear record of every payment. Your landlord needs a Ukrainian bank account to receive payment. If your landlord only accepts cash, we are not able to cover that rental situation.

Is this long-term support?

No. We are a bridge, not a destination. Our help is designed for the months between where you are and where you are starting to become financially independent. The goal is for you to outgrow needing us.

Who is the program not for?

We are not the right fit for women who are looking for ongoing housing or living support without a path toward income. If you are not yet ready to take active steps toward your own work, that is okay, but Hope Bravely is not the right program for that season.

What is expected of me as a participant?

You stay actively engaged in your next step. That might be applying for jobs, finishing a course, growing a small business, or showing up for the counseling we have set up with you. Our coordinator will check in regularly about your progress. The program works when participants show up for their own future.

What if I already have some income but it is not enough?

You can still apply. Many of the women we work with are working part-time, freelancing, or running a small business but cannot yet cover the month. We help close that gap so you can grow what you have already started.

How long does support usually last?

Support is time-bound, with a maximum of 2 years. Most participants reach their goal well before that. We agree on a plan with you at the start so you know what to expect, and we check in every month to review progress together.

How do I apply?

Start your application at app.hopebravely.org. Create an account, fill in the short application form, and submit. Our coordinator reviews every application and will reach out about next steps.

What does the application process look like?

You fill out a short form at app.hopebravely.org describing your situation, your goals, and what kind of support you are looking for. After you submit, our coordinator reviews your application and reaches out if it looks like a good fit. If you move forward, we set up a conversation to understand your situation better and agree on a plan together. The full process is described step by step on the participant path page.
